Welcome to visit our Project KDES 2008 website!

In 2007, the moon bounds experiment by the "Project Big Dish", 8N1EME with a 32m Cassegrain antenna at KDDI Ibaraki Satellite Communication Center, succeeded working on 144MHz to 5.6GHz by 500W output with a carrier class big antenna for the first time ever in Japan. It contributed to the expansion of the potential of Amateur radio and was able to give the stuff of dreams and hope to the youth who bear the scientific exploration of the next generation.

The Katsuura Tracking and Communication Station of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has an 18m Gregorian antenna which was built 1976 and it is not used now. It opens for experience operation for guests. It will be scrapped after two years. In the recent project the schedde was very short and several experiments weren't completed. So, some people of the project proposed new experiment plans for EME and enlightening activities for the youth, by continuing to use Katsuura's dish. Therefore "Project Katsuura Dish Experimental Station 2008" (KDES 2008) was established.

JARL Chiba branch and Project KDES 2008 had discussions with JAXA to resolve problems for operating Amateur radio with an 18m dish. We have a JARL Special station, 8J1AXA.

This project's goals are : enlightening activities for the youth, skill development operator's for HAM and the expansion of the number of HAM operators.

  • Project Duration
    1 Apr. 2008 to 31 Mar. 2010
  • Bands and Power
    500W on 144MHz, 432MHz, 1296MHz

8J1AXA (propaganda station under mobile station license) is operating mainly on Saturday, Sunday and Japanese national holiday.

We got a high power license for 144MHz and 432MHz and we started QRV on 144MHz with HPA. At now, Jan 2010 we have got a 500W license for 1296MHz and we started QRV on 1296MHz.

We know our activeties are not enough at this time. Please understand that we get to the station over several hours from urban areas.
